Verimatrix VCAS OnPrem product versioning

Verimatrix VCAS Server product versions use a four-sequence identifier: A.B.C.D (for example: VCAS 5.2.0.1), where:

  1. Represents a Major Release implying fundamental change of an underlying architecture, technology, and design. Backward compatibility is not always guaranteed. Upgrading to a new Major Release may be subject to additional fees.
  2. Represents an Upgrade Release which may add new features functionality, enhancements, security updates, database schema changes, and / or remove obsolete components. Backward compatibility is not always guaranteed. Upgrading to a new Upgrade release may be subject to additional fees.
  3. Represents a Maintenance Update Release that may add minor functionality, eliminate faults / defects, and provide security updates. Backward compatibility of Verimatrix server is generally preserved. Update is not subject to additional fees if a valid M&S Agreement is in place.
  4. Represents Minor Maintenance Update Release that may eliminate faults / defects and / or provide security updates. Backward compatibility of Verimatrix server is generally preserved. Update is not subject to additional fees if a valid M&S Agreement is in place.

Verimatrix VCAS SaaS Cloud Product Life Cycle status

VCAS SaaS is dedicated to maintaining the highest standard of service by consistently running on the latest generally available release. This ensures our clients have access to the newest features, robust security, and optimal performance. Regular updates are key to staying ahead in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

It’s important to note that versions of the VCAS Server prior to c19.xx are now considered End-Of-Maintenance (EOM). These versions will no longer receive updates and they will only receive limited support (see Product Life Cycle Phases for more information).

Customers using these older versions are encouraged to upgrade to the latest release to benefit from improved functionality, security enhancements, and continuous support, thereby ensuring their systems remain efficient and secure.

Product Life Cycle Phases

The Verimatrix Product Life Cycle has Beta, General Availability and Maintenance phases. Planning dates for start and end of each Life Cycle phase are given in the table above for each Major and Upgrade releases.

General Availability Phase – The phase commencing when the new release becomes generally available (GA) for production deployments and can be delivered to all customers. The General Availability phase ends on Last Install date.

Maintenance Phase – The phase covers the period after the Last Install date when maintenance updates are still generally available if a valid M&S Agreement is in place with the customer. During this phase Verimatrix provides Maintenance Update Releases as deemed necessary by Verimatrix.

Customers are strongly advised to upgrade before the end of the Maintenance Phase to the most recent General Availability version.

Limited Support Phase – At the end of the Maintenance Phase, the product reaches End of Maintenance (EOM). After the EOM date, updates and patches may not be available. For customers with an active Maintenance and Support agreement Verimatrix will continue to provide technical support for product versions which are EOM if this support does not require software updates. The degree of technical support which can reasonably be provided for EOM product versions will be at the discretion of Verimatrix and the price of M&S for EOM versions may need to be increased to cover the complexity of supporting old product versions.

Miscellaneous releases

In certain situations, and during the General Availability or the Maintenance phases, in addition to the releases indicated in the product versioning section, the following product release might be provided:

  • Controlled release: A feature focused version providing functionality targeted to a specific set of customers.
  • Test release: These versions are intended to validate customer specific scenarios and implementations; they are not intended to be used for production environments.

Support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

We would like to inform our customers that VCAS server versions starting from VCAS 4.3.6.6 utilize the RHEL 7.9 operating system. It’s important to note that the RHEL 7.9 will reach its End of Life (EOL) on June 30, 2024. Post this date, Extended Life Support (ELS) options may be available, albeit at an additional cost and with limited support coverage.

For customers using RHEL versions older than 7.9, please be aware that these are already EOL and are no longer supported by Red Hat. To ensure continued full support and to leverage the latest advancements, we strongly recommend upgrading to VCAS 5. For those needing assistance or more information on this transition, please contact Verimatrix for dedicated support and guidance.

1K X.509 Certificates Notice

Verimatrix hereby notifies Customers and Resellers that the 1024-bit (1K) X.509 certificate which is used for cryptographic communication between some VCAS systems and client devices, such as set top boxes (STBs), expired on November 13, 2024. Any VCAS systems and any client devices provisioned with the 1K certificate stopped working (black screen) since that date.

End of life VCAS systems and client devices with version 3.x.x.x and older are provisioned only with a 1K certificate and MUST be upgraded.

VCAS systems with versions 4.x.x.x are provisioned with both 1K and the current 2K certificate. These VCAS systems MUST be configured to use only the 2K certificate before the 1K certificate expires.

VCAS systems with versions 5.x.x.x are provisioned with the 2K certificate by default and no further action is needed.

Before a VCAS system can be configured to use only the 2K certificate all STBs, or other client devices with versions 3.x.x.x and older connecting to that VCAS system, MUST be upgraded to 4.x.x.x or 5.x.x.x that support the 2K certificate.

Verimatrix hereby gives notice to Customers and Resellers that the VCAS systems still using the 1K certificate after November 12, 2024, are excluded from the Verimatrix maintenance and support services and no further support for those VCAS systems will be provided as of November 12, 2024.

If you have any questions regarding this notice, please contact Verimatrix.
